The present invention relates to an engine for a ship. According to the present invention, the engine for a ship comprises: a cylinder for burning fuel; a piston reciprocating between bottom dead center and top dead center in the cylinder; a scavenging air supply unit for supplying air to the cylinder; and a gas supply unit for supplying gas fuel to the cylinder while the piston moves from the bottom dead center to the top dead center. The gas supply unit supplies gas fuel in a second direction opposite to the first direction, which is a swirl direction of the air supplied to the cylinder by the scavenging air supply unit.
