The present invention relates to an apparatus for starting an engine of a mild hybrid vehicle and a method thereof, the apparatus for starting an engine of a mild hybrid vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention comprising: an ignition switch including a plurality of contacts; an external air temperature sensor detecting the external air temperature surrounding a mild hybrid vehicle; a state of charge (SOC) sensor detecting the SOC of a low-voltage battery; a mild hybrid starter and generator (MHSG) including a stator and a rotor arranged in the stator, and starting the engine or generating power by means of the output of the engine; a starter starting the engine; an MHSG wheel integrally rotating with the rotor, and having at least three teeth on the circumference; an MHSG position sensor detecting the position of the teeth; and a controller determining the top dead center of a cylinder, which is set based on a signal of the MHSG position sensor.

    본 발명은 마일드 하이브리드 차량의 엔진 시동 장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 마일드 하이브리드 차량의 엔진 시동 장치는, 복수개의 접점을 포함하는 이그니션 스위치; 마일드 하이브리드 차량의 외기온을 검출하는 외기온 센서; 저전압 배터리의 SOC(state of charge)를 검출하는 SOC 센서; 고정자 및 고정자의 내측에 배치되는 회전자를 포함하고, 엔진을 시동하거나 엔진의 출력에 의해 발전하는 MHSG(mild hybrid starter & generator); 엔진을 시동하는 스타터; 상기 회전자와 일체로 회전하며, 원주 상에 적어도 3개의 투쓰들이 형성된 MHSG 휠; 상기 투쓰들의 위치를 검출하는 MHSG 위치 센서; 및 상기 MHSG 위치 센서의 신호를 기초로 설정된 실린더의 상사점을 판단하는 제어기;를 포함할 수 있다.
