A system includes a fuel cell stack and a controller. The controller is configured to operate the fuel cell stack with a given air stoic ratio while a temperature of the fuel cell stack is greater than a temperature threshold and to operate the fuel cell stack with a lower air stoic ratio, to thereby suppress a stack voltage of the fuel cell stack in order to increase heat generation of the fuel cell stack, while the temperature of the fuel cell stack is lower than the temperature threshold.
