A powered handheld chain driver for driving a chain from a chain fall thereby minimizing the effort required to raise and lower loads. The chain driver comprises an integrated or separated drive motor driving a chain sprocket that drives the chain. The chain sprocket is positioned between a pair of vertical spaced chutes and is engaged within a portion of the chutes. Each spaced chute is split and can be opened in a release configuration, for loading and unloading a chain therein. The chutes also comprise a drive configuration wherein the chutes are closed and the chains are captured within the chutes during chain driver operation. Lateral of each chute is a hand assembly comprising handles for supporting the chain driver with the user's hands. A battery is mounted on one side of the chain driver to supply power to the drive motor via one or more power switches.
