The AUTOBENCH project aims at integrated developments for virtual automotive prototypes. The special focus is on the simulation of the functional behaviour of the car body and the production of its parts. Project partners are automotive companies (BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Karmann and Porsche). Software vendors of simulation software (ESI.INTES,INPRO) and technology providers (Uni Stuttgart, GMD-SCAI and GMD-IMK). New technologies were developed in the handling of numerical grids, simulation, integration of CAE tools, numerical algorithms and visualisation. Together these results are a substantial step forward towards interactive simulation in automotive design. This paper provides an overview of the aims of the project and summarizes the achieved results.
