A novel 3-D optical scanning technique based on holography and code multiplexing is discussed. A proof of concept experiment demonstrates the code multiplexed optical scanner and its ability to scan the beam in 3-D with wide scan angles and large apertures. Future work relates to using high efficiency holographic storage materials such as photo-thermo-refractive (PTR) glasses.
