This paper provides an overview of emerging electronics technologies suitable for developing the next generation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). These technologies can be classified into two broad categories-low-power electronics and high-power electronics. Low-power electronics technologies include those used for computing, communication, multimedia, and sensing. High-power electronics technologies, on the other hand, refer to those used for power generation, distribution, conditioning, and control. This paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of the current status and emerging trends in developing both terrestrial and space ITS of the future.
