Ripple free operation of Permanent magnet BLDC motor is a very basic requirement for high precision and noiseless applications of the machine. This paper first analyses the basic reasons due to which torque ripple occurs and then discussed the possible methods adopted to significantly eradicate these torque fluctuations for the quiet and efficient operation of the motor. This study compiles various schemes/advances made to obtain smooth operation of PMBLDCM and will help the researchers in developing a broad overview to address this problem in the future.
