It is necessary to determine the optimal, economically justified level of quality of port products (contrary to the slogan “the higher the quality, the better”), and it is necessary to jointly optimize the quality and volume of port services using appropriate economic and mathematical models. Two main indicators of the quality of port services are identified: the duration of cargo loading and unloading and the share of cargo safety. The dependencies of port tariffs, which ensure the required demand for port services, and port costs on the values of these indicators are built. The optimal values of volumes and quality indicators of port services, which maximize the profit of the port, were analytically found from the constructed economic and mathematical models. Based on the analysis of the obtained formulas, the dependencies of the optimal values on the initial parameters of the system are constructed, the corresponding regularities are established, and interesting, even paradoxical economic conclusions are drawn. In particular, the lower the optimal share of cargo safety, the faster it should be handled, and vice versa, with high cargo safety, the optimal handling time increases, which expresses a certain interchangeability of port product quality indicators.
