Summary form only given. We have recently demonstrated a new method for fine tuning the wavelength of a cw periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) optical parametric oscillator (OPO). We believe that we have demonstrated electric field spectral tuning of a cw PPLN OPO for the first time. We observed tuning of 3.2 cm/sup -1/ for an applied electric field of 1.2 V//spl mu/m across the asymmetric grating PPLN crystal, and the operation of the PPLN OPO did not degrade during the course of our observations.
