The Railway Sentinel: Smart System for Collision Avoidance and Obstacle Tracking aims to enhance railway safety by integrating real-time obstacle detection and preventive mechanisms into train operations. This system utilizes a combination of infrared sensors and ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles on railway tracks within a defined proximity, enabling timely alerts and responses. An accelerometer-based tilt sensor continuously monitors the inclination and vibration of the train to detect potential derailment or abnormal tilts, contributing to proactive maintenance and accident prevention. A DC motor controlled via a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) mechanism regulates the train's speed and braking system dynamically in response to detected hazards. When an obstacle or abnormal tilt is identified, the system automatically adjusts the motor speed or initiates a braking sequence to avoid collisions. The integration of multiple sensor modalities ensures redundancy and improved detection accuracy. This low-cost, embedded solution offers an effective step toward reducing accidents due to obstacles, collisions, or derailments in railway systems, making it scalable for both urban and rural rail networks. The proposed system is designed for easy retrofitting onto existing trains and emphasizes real-time data processing for immediate response, thereby contributing to safer and smarter railway operations.
