The electrification of the railroad test track in the U.S. Department of Transportation, Transportation Test Center in Pueblo, Colorado is a unique testing ground for electric traction. It is the first electrified 60 Hz system to be constructed in the U.S.A. for greater-than-100 mph service. This paper describes the design capabilities and testing of the power supply and overhead contact wire systems. Included are discussion of special features such as the one-mile test section for the testing of prototype overhead contact wire systems and the multi-voltage traction substation. The authors also give the results of some of the electrification - related testing performed by the DOT/FRA after implementation of the project.
