This paper presents a novel and simple all-optical-waveguide mid-infrared (mid-IR) Er:YAG (/spl lambda/ = 2.94 /spl mu/m) laser delivery system for precise brain tissue ablation using a direct laser-to-taper coupling and a smart tissue-activated fiber probe.
