Over the past 15 years, there has been rapid progress in producing high peak power, ultrashort laser pulses by incorporating the technique of chirped pulse amplification (CPA). In this paper a laboratory-scaled PW Ti:sapphire laser system which is currently being produced 32.9-fs pulses with a peak power of 0.85-PW is investigated.
