We propose and demonstrate a cost-effective way to implement an OC-192 optical duobinary transmitter using an OC-48 nonbuffered x-cut LiNbO/sub 3/ Mach-Zehnder modulator, still maintaining good dispersion and self-phase modulation tolerance of duobinary signals.
