Extremely compact diode-pumped Nd:glass and ytterbium femtosecond lasers generated continua in tapered fibers. Only 88 mW at 1060 nm yield a 200 nm wide continuum, and 600 mW of 1040 nm 30 nJ pulses give a 230 mW and >1100 nm wide continuum with a linear Gaussian peak of >250 nm width around 1120 nm.
