Design, fabrication and characterisation of GaAs/AIGaAs passive polarisation converters realised through the use of three novel approaches is reported. The devices have been tested at /spl lambda/=0.9/spl mu/m and 1.3/spl mu/m, producing TE-TM conversion efficiencies up to 70%.
