Under the EC DRIVE program, a new project began in 1992. It is called HARDIE (Harmonization of Advanced Transport Telematics Roadside and Driver Information in Europe). Its aim is the promotion of good design practice and standards for the safe construction and use of in-vehicle information systems. Some initial findings of the evaluations carried out are presented, and key issues in the implementation of standards for design and use of driver information systems are discussed.
