Based on the international requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in shipping, this article outlines waste heat recovery power generation technology as an energy-saving and environmentally friendly means on board ships, and summarizes the current technological development status and working principles of waste heat recovery and utilization systems at home and abroad. Regarding the application of waste heat recovery system (WHR) onboard, this article decomposes the WHR system from the perspective of working principle and design layout, identifies and analyzes the safety design requirements for its onboard application, and proposes appropriate preventive and security measures. Based on the above analysis, this article looks forward to the development prospects and possible problems of WHR’s future applications on ships, providing reference for the practical engineering application of waste heat recovery power generation technology on ships.
