Four-wave mixing (FWM) noises in FDM lightwave transmission systems are theoretically analyzed for frequency allocations such as equally-spaced, repeated unequally-spaced (RUS), equally-spaced RUS (ERUS), and unequally-spaced RUS (URUS) with modulation formats such as non-return-to-zero, random return-to-zero, differential phase-shift keying, and bit-phase arranged RZ (BARZ). It is found that FWM noises are lowest in URUS with BARZ.
