F-7P aircraft is being used by many air forces for air to air combat roles and has reasonable serviceability levels in variety of operations. It has a large number of users but limited literature is available on its defect trends analysis. Present research was focused on establishing maintenance characteristics of its airframe, engine, electric and instrument systems from defects history. Flying and maintenance data was collected from one of its users and was coded to analyze main, sub, sub-sub systems and component level defects using statistical tools. Established results could be used by other operators to review frequency of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance inspections. This research may also help in establishing critical parts inventory levels and to provide a methodology of similar research for other fighter aircraft.
