The ongoing electrification of commercial conventional powertrains requires innovative solutions to relax human drivers and to automate non-trivial decision-making. The advanced fitness for propulsion systems are the telemetry, navigation and electronic horizon systems in combination with connectivity functions. These smart systems are the key elements for increasing safety, congestion-free highways, reduced fuel consumption and emissions under real driving conditions. In this work, a novel optimization approach is presented to advise the driver economically to select battery charging and refueling stations as well as the quantities to be recharged or refueled. In this way, travel costs for a preselected route can be economically minimized and the EU driver rest period can be combined. When selecting the stations, the most cost-effective live charging and fueling tariffs are considered. The presented algorithm calculates the global optimal solution with discrete dynamic programming (DP) approach. The novel approach enables interaction with the preselected grids (V2G) and recommends reservations. The approach is applied to study the German highway Aachen-Munich-Aachen and Aachen-Friedrichshafen-Aachen routes. With the novel method, a reduction of more than 12 % of costs and 12 % of fuel consumption can be achieved.
