Exploring cascading failure mitigation strategies to protect the complex networked systems is of both research interest and engineering significance. Progress on defense strategies such as removing permanently flux after the initial failure has been made. This paper proposes a new method considering the dynamical flux removal at each time step to mitigate the cascading failure. Results on both scale-free network model and real transportation networks such as Oldenburg road network and California road network reveal that the dynamical flux removal is superior to the static flux removal strategy, where there exists an optimal removal fraction. This method may be helpful for designing the self-healing mechanism for the future intelligent transportation systems.
