This presentation examines potential future electromagnetic/antenna requirements and conceptual designs for "smart cars" utilizing the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS). These cars must provide antennas for many different purposes, including safety, entertainment, voice communications, data communications, guidance, emergency, navigation, and locating functions. Antenna designs must also be consistent with marketing requirements for sleek, stylish, stream-lined, customer-appealing cars. This is an area where the defense industry could obtain large commercial markets.<>
