Electrocardiogram (ECG) recording is a multi-channel signal that results due to the traversing of electrical impulse through a human heart. The amplitude and time intervals of the characteristic points, P-QRS-T, of an ECG waveform that results due to different events occurred during a cardiac cycle will contain vital information related to the functioning of cardiovascular system. Accurate detection of these fiducial points ensures the accurate diagnosis of various types of arrhythmia. In this paper, an approach employing Dual Window Fourier Transform (DWFT) for QRS complex detection has been suggested. For extracting the QRS complex from ECG waveform, thresholding was done on the normalized energy signal obtained on transformation of ECG signal with DWFT. The testing of suggested approach was carried out on the records of MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database and the achieved detection accuracy has been found to be more satisfactory.
