Novel compact optical add-drop multiplexers for dense wavelength-division-multiplexing systems, which consist of directional couplers and Bragg gratings in silica waveguides, have been demonstrated. The devices have high fabrication tolerances, low polarization dependence and low crosstalk for both add and drop operations, simultaneously.
