In 5G NR (the fifth generation standard, called New Radio), coverage is one of key design factors to be enhanced for actual 5G NR deployment. In particular, a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) is the most severe bottleneck channel for coverage [1]. In 3GPP, various schemes for uplink coverage enhancement are supported such as i) enhancements on PUSCH repetition, ii) Transport block (TB) processing over multi slot PUSCH, and iii) joint channel estimation over multiple PUSCH transmissions. This paper analyzes performance of these schemes in a unified framework, considering different parameters and assumptions in 3GPP in order to provide an insight about overall coverage performance taken from those schemes. It is observed that Rel-17 coverage enhancement schemes can provide up to 9.72% and 9.86% of coverage improvement in FR1 and FR2, respectively.
