This paper proposes a new discontinuous PWM method to reduce the minimum number of switchings without loss of control neutral point (NP) voltage balancing for single-phase three-level inverters by considering a single-phase three-level full-bridge inverter as same a two-phase matrix converter and switching sequence concepts of the matrix converter are modified to this inverter. The research results reveal that the proposed PWM method can control the minimum number of switchings and the NP voltage balancing. Also, low common-mode voltage (CMV) can be achieved.
