The implications of the Internet of Vehicles (IoV) concept grow with the number and variety of connected vehicles. Safe transportation becomes important when vehicle users seek comfort on the road. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication technology enhances communication between vehicles and infrastructure. To meet the growing demand for connected vehicles, network speed, energy efficiency, and spectrum consumption must be improved over ad-hoc or cellular connectivity. The current research utilizes Low-Power, Wide-Area Networking (LPWAN) technology as Long-Range (LoRa). Scalability, flexibility, long-range, and low power consumption are all provided by LoRa communication over the Long Range-Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN). The current work is a proof-of-concept for a hardware prototype on a Vehicular Ad- Hoc Network (VANET) that employs LoRa modules and a LoRaWAN gateway. The proposed system is tested for Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication between LoRa devices, and it sends data to a LoRaWAN server via the gateway. The test results significantly support the usefulness of the proposed method for establishing a secure connection in connected vehicles. The acquired metrics of the better-received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and Signal Noise Ratio (SNR), support the proposed method for enhanced communication utilizing LoRaWAN for connected vehicles.
