Summary form only given. Mode-locked operation at 7.2 MHz has been demonstrated using a novel multipass cavity (MPC) and a SBR. We obtained 23.5 fs nearly transform limited pulses from a Kerr lens mode locked (KLM) Ti:Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ laser. This unprecedented low repetition rate laser suggests new approaches for achieving a few MHz repetition rates and MW level peak powers.
