The use of code division multiple access (CDMA) techniques for wireless communications systems, both terrestrial based and satellite based, has become of interest because of certain distinctive characteristics of spread spectrum waveforms relative to those of more conventional signals. These characteristics are of particular importance when signaling over radio channels, whereby waveforms experience multipath fading, multiple access interference, and, in military scenarios, intentional jamming. Broadband CDMA (BCDMA) is a version of CDMA that attempts to make most favorable use of the properties of CDMA signals by expanding the bandwidth of the CDMA waveforms to the greatest extent possible. In this paper, we present an overview of some of the characteristics of BCDMA.
