To assess the reliability of marine propulsion shafting, an assessment model is established based on systemlevel stress — strength interference analysis, where the relationship between component failure probability attribute and stress-strength distribution was described. Different from the conventional system reliability estimation method by which system reliability was calculated directly from component reliability under the assumption of independent failure among components, the proposed method was applying stress-strength interference relationship at system-level and calculated system reliability according to load distribution and strength distribution. In the end, an example is given to show this method is usable in practical application.
