Efficient channel allocation for the purpose of vehicle-to-vehicle communications in automated highway system (AHS) is an unsolved problem. The extension of cellular mobile framework to the AHS is inefficient and faulty. We propose two algorithms in this paper: 1) a centralized algorithm that allocates channels by keeping track of the vehicles through a network of detectors; and 2) a mixed-control algorithm that combines vehicle-based channel interference measurements with the centralized algorithm.
