Motion blur is one of the main challenges for using LCDs in television applications. Motion blur arises from the slow response time of liquid crystals and from the hold-type driving method used in LCDs, resulting in degraded motion picture quality. Motion blur can be reduced by decreasing spatio-temporal integration time. In this paper, we show an effective method for reducing the integration time. By inserting black data between image data and by increasing the refresh rate, we are able to demonstrate markedly improved LCD motion image quality.
