An optical packet switch fabric for avionic networks is described. The switch core uses waveguide grating routers (WGRs) and star couplers, i.e. only passive optical components. The only active switching elements are tunable lasers located at the transmitters. A switching time of 5 ns is experimentally demonstrated.
