Every day the fleet of vehicles on the road increases, which is impossible to match with conventional traffic control methods. In the current environment, conventional method is only successful if there are low numbers of vehicles; when vehicle volumes increase and become too heavy at one lane of a road, it does not work. We are aiming at replacing the static traffic signals with a signal-switching system capable of handling and monitoring these signals in real-time. To precisely calculate signal switching times in congested traffic, a real-time image detection technique will be used for this study. With this approach, traffic congestion can be reduced more quickly and effectively.
