Digitized color images can convey a considerable amount of information, but they also may require a lot of space for storage. To save space, color images may be compressed. A number of different algorithms have been used to compress color images, but some of them lose significant information in the compression process. An artificial neural network technique, the Kohonen Map, is able to able to compress color images with little or no loss of significant color information.<>
