Carrier phase positioning is an attractive candidate technology for 5G high-accuracy positioning because of its centimeter-level positioning capability that has been verified in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). However, when applying it in 5G New Radio (NR) system using Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), it will face some new challenges. In this paper, we propose several carrier phase measurement methods based on 5G NR system. Then, a multi-frequency carrier phase ranging method is proposed to mitigate the impact of the next Generation NodeB (gNB) antenna reference point (ARP) position error. Finally, it is shown that carrier phase positioning technology in 5G can achieve centimeter-level to millimeter-level positioning accuracy performance by system-level simulation experiments.
