As an alternative scheme of planetary gear, magnetic-field modulated brushless double-rotor machine (MFM-BDRM) has large potential in hybrid electrical vehicles (HEVs); however, coupling between dual rotor torque results in MFM-BDRM having to work together with a torque-regulating machine (TRM), which leads to an increase in powertrain volume. In this context, the integrated magnetic-field-modulated brushless compound-structure machine (IMFM-BCSM) is an excellent solution. In this article, a special dual-winding dual-flux-concentrated magnetic-field-modulated brushless compound-structure machine (DDMFM-BCSM) is proposed. DDMFM-BCSM is equivalent to the combination of MFM-BDRM and permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM), which means functions of two machines could be realized in one machine. Affected by the magnetic field modulation principle and coupling between dual windings, the slot/pole combination of DDMFM-BCSM is a key problem to be solved. The influences of permanent magnet (PM) and slot opening dimensions, phase-current, and internal power-factor angle on the torque and power factor are analyzed, which could provide assistance for the design and optimization of DDMFM-BCSM. At last, a DDMFM-BCSM prototype is tested by experiments, which could verify the correctness of the analysis.
