In this paper, the analytical model of a MagLev system is derived using Ampere's law and the MagLev equivalent magnetic circuit. A finite element model is then used to study the static characteristics of the MagLev, namely, its magnetic force, flux density distribution and system inductance. Based on MagLev's equivalent electrical circuit, dynamic model of the MagLev system has been developed. Lyapaunov's stability analysis method has been used to investigate the stability of the MagLev system in closed loop operation. Finally, the analytical and dynamic models will be verified using simulation results.
