The global transportation sector is being challenged for carbon and other toxic gas emissions and is in the middle of a rapid transition from traditional technologies (i.e., internal combustion propulsion) to a more sustainable option. Considering current viable technologies, electrification of propulsion has emerged as leading alternate option. China and Europe are leading the way in this transition, with the USA and Japan not far behind. India though has taken a balanced approach through its FAME initiative thus encouraging transition to electric vehicles and holds ambitions for significant movement towards electrification by 2030. Transportation (Passenger and Cargo) had seen an organic growth spanning more than a century and associated through this development is its acceptance and an evolved eco system surrounding fossil fuel technologies. Disruption of this Juggernaut towards Electrification of Transportation carries benefits such as perceived Lifecycle Carbon footprint reduction, related Crude Import reduction, and Forex Savings. Electrification of Transportation is a multi-dimensional approach involving key areas such as (i)Government Initiatives and Regulations, (ii)Advanced Battery Technology and Material logistics, (iii)Renewable and Sustainable Energy (iv)Transfer Grid Systems (v)Charging Infrastructure (vi)Smart and Connected networks and (vii) Vehicle models are available in an affordable and acceptable range of configurations. This paper brings to forefront how Ecosystem is expected to evolve towards successful market accommodation. The current challenge for mankind is to create a Sustainable and Organic “Electrification” ecosystem in an accelerated timeframe. Success depends on disruptions with minimal impact on transportation.
