The effective capacity (EC) has been introduced as a performance metric that takes into account the delay constraints imposed by real-time emerging applications. This paper develops a novel moment generating function (MGF)-based approach for the effective capacity analysis of equal gain combining (EGC) diversity receivers over generalized fading channels under a maximum delay constraint. Selected numerical and simulation performance evaluation results are presented, verifying the validity of the proposed unified approach.
