Conventional Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite attitude steering focuses on reducing the coupling between range direction and azimuth direction. Based on the characteristics of geosynchronous orbit SAR (GEO SAR), a novel satellite attitude steering strategy is proposed for geosynchronous orbit SAR staring imaging, in which the satellite attitude steering angle is derived by taking into account the elliptical orbit eccentricity of the Earth's rotation and the Earth flat rate. The ability of staring imaging in geosynchronous orbit SAR is analyzed and verified by using the back projection (BP) algorithm to simulate the imaging principle at different orbit positions. The analyzed and simulated results have shown that the geosynchronous orbit SAR can realize staring imaging by the proposed satellite attitude steering strategy.
