NextGen can enable use of new vehicle classes in the NAS: - NextGen enables independent routes to airports and runways - Significant capacity gains at congested airports, better access to underutilized regional airports - Independent routes for different classes of aircraft (e.g. CESTOL and CTR) adds capacity without impacting conventional aircraft throughput - Independent routes enable different approach configurations - Straight-in 3-degree glide slopes and ~130kt approach speeds are no longer required since arriving aircraft are no longer required to “ line up” - Radical new approaches such as the CESTOL steep spiraling approach gain capacity without adding runways - Non-towered airports no longer operate at commercially unacceptable “ one in -one out” rates for IFR flights - Enables VLJ, CESTOL, UAS and conventional aircraft to operate reliable commercial service from underutilized airports.
