Experimental demonstrations of an all-optical demultiplexing and all-optical format conversions, using an ultrafast polarization bistable VCSEL are presented. 3R regeneration using the VCSEL is proposed and numerically analyzed. Optical buffering for photonic packet switching using the VCSEL is also proposed.
