Urban areas around the world continue to face significant challenges due to traffic congestion., often exacerbated by outdated fixed-timer traffic signal systems that fail to adapt to varying traffic conditions. To address this challenge, proposed work focuses on developing a dynamic traffic signal system that adjusts signal timing based on active traffic flow at intersections. In this system, traffic density is monitored using PIR (proximity infrared) sensors. These sensors detect the presence of vehicles and send the data to a controller (Arduino). The controller then calculates the appropriate duration for green and red lights based on the current traffic flow. This approach ensures that lanes with higher traffic density receive longer green light durations, optimizing traffic flow and reducing congestion. The proposed system not only enhances traffic management, but also contributes to reducing delays and improving safety at intersections. This approach represents a significant advancement in traffic signal control technology, addressing the limitations of current methods and offering a scalable solution for urban traffic management.
