A high bandwidth two-axis pointing system with high-performance for bifocal or multifocal camera sets suited for advanced machine perception in an intelligent vehicle is presented. The hardware design of the system realized is explained in detail including a solution for the gaze control problem. Special emphasis is given to the design of the dynamic motor control system. Low frequency visual sensor data with time delays are synchronized and fused with inertial measurement data. The different steps of a saccade are described. The system presented has been tested in real vehicles and its quality has been proven in practical applications.
