We propose a new timing synchronization and frequency offset estimation algorithm using the characteristics of chirp training sequences based on Fractional Fourier Transform (FrFT). The training sequence is composed of one up and one down chirp signals. The received training sequence with timing and frequency offset is transformed by FrFT and the positions of the two peaks representing two chirps in FrFT domain are detected, then they are compared to the peak positions of training sequence both timing and frequency synchronized. The comparison results are substituted into a linear equation group to calculate timing and frequency offset. We present the whole timing and frequency synchronization procedure, and simulation results show that the proposed method can estimate timing and frequency offset effectively.
