In this work we examined a particular real-time avionics application, formulated a parallel algorithm for solving it and characterized the parallel algorithm's behavior. We then created a simulation model of a parallel computer architecture based on SCI (Scalable Coherent Interface) and tested the performance of the real-time avionics parallel algorithm on this architecture. We found that for this particular real-time avionics application, the base SCI technology is sufficient to build a parallel computer which can solve the application within the required real-time requirements. We do not conclude that SCI is sufficient for all real-time avionics applications; rather, we advocate utilizing this experimental methodology to test, for a given real-time avionics application, whether the base SCI technology can solve the problem within the problem's constraints.
