We report on the observation of transition radiation generated by short optical pulses crossing the boundary between linear and non-linear materials. Unlike transition radiation observed with moving charges, we observe terahertz generation at the boundary between two media traversed by a femtosecond optical pulses. Contribution from bulk nonlinear difference frequency generation is also observed, but for the first time these effects can be separated.
